Historic Birdwood Mansion Announces Grand Restoration Project and Transformation into a New Luxury Boutique Hotel

Storied 19th Century Mansion and Estate to Become a New Epicenter for
Culture-Rich Getaways, Storied Weddings and Multifunctional Gatherings

Charlottesville, VA (January 2025) – Birdwood Mansion, the storied 19th century estate located in the foothills of Charlottesville, announces a majestic restoration project that is currently underway to transform the property into a new luxury boutique 7-room hotel, which is slated to debut this fall. Nestled on the grounds of the popular resort destination, Boar's Head Resort, the Mansion—which was initially constructed between 1819 and 1830—will present a new, intimate accommodation experience steeped in history, as well as a haven for weddings and corporate and social gatherings of all kinds.

Upon its completion, Birdwood Mansion will feature four individually curated guest rooms within the main house, as well as three adjacent cottages that are being rebuilt and restored to offer their own personalized story. While taking great care to preserve and restore many of the former home’s original structure and design elements, the rehabilitated Birdwood Mansion will incorporate shared guest spaces such as an elegant parlor and a beautiful dining room. A stay at Birdwood Mansion will also feature white glove service and luxury amenities travelers would expect from an exclusive high-end hotel.

Further enhancing the appeal of Birdwood Mansion will be its surrounding gardens set on nearly 12 acres of beautifully manicured land overlooking the Boar’s Head Resort golf courses and breathtaking natural Virginia scenery. Included within the grounds will be a dedicated pool and the Whispering Garden, a secret hideaway that will beckon guests to discover the lush local trees and flowers.

Offering a holistic resort experience with each stay, guests of Birdwood Mansion will enjoy full access to the world-class amenities featured at Boar’s Head Resort. These include the picturesque Birdwood Golf courses and facilities; a tranquil spa; expansive sports club, offering abundant tennis, pickleball and squash courts; state-of-the-art aquatics center; and more.

Birdwood Mansion is also poised to become one of Virginia’s newest and most sought-after event destinations for gatherings and celebrations. From storied wedding ceremonies on the lawn to private garden dinners, cocktail hours and other functions, a historic setting awaits. Advance inquiries for future events can be made through inquiry@birdwoodmansion.com.

As a precursor to the fine dining experience that will be featured at the Mansion, Boar’s Head Resort will showcase the culinary talents of Italian Guest Chef Igor Bocchia, from the Tuscany-based Stella di Monte boutique hotel, as part of its Mill Room Epicurean Series from Jan. 30 – Feb. 15, 2025. A seasoned star known for his thoughtful approach to Italian cuisine, Chef Igor will return in January 2026 to present a new guest chef collaboration exclusively at Birdwood Mansion.

Located minutes from the University of Virginia, Birdwood Mansion will also serve as a vital new link to the surrounding student and local community. In recognition of its past, Birdwood Mansion will incorporate an educational tour of the grounds in collaboration with the University, allowing guests and the general public the important opportunity to discover and learn about its history.

The restoration completion and launch of Birdwood Mansion is anticipated in the fall of 2025. For more preliminary information, please visit www.birdwoodmansion.com.
